Russia has been granted a permit for construction of the Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline in German territorial waters.

The project would double the existing gas supply from Russia to Germany.

“This permit is the result of extensive planning and consultation process. Nord Stream 2 is aware of its responsibility towards this sensitive natural habitat and has taken this into account in the planning phase,” Jens Lange, permitting manager for Germany at Nord Stream 2 AG, said.

Europe may face a second wave of migration as the situation in refugee camps in Africa and the Middle East is only getting worse, the head of the UN World Food Programme said.

He added there is a clear link between hunger and migration.

Living conditions, mostly food distribution, in refugee camps in crisis-affected regions had deteriorated dramatically before the European migrant crisis struck in 2015, David Beasley, the executive director of the World Food Programme (WFP) told German newspaper Die Zeit.

Why switching to fully electric cars will take time

Written by Tony Harkén on måndag, 16 oktober 2017. Posted in Tyskland, Artiklar om Tyskland, Main 2, Right bottom - 8st

Are electric cars really about to take over from the old-fashioned internal combustion engine?

Judging by some of the headlines we've seen recently, you could be forgiven for thinking petrol and diesel engines were about to be consigned to the scrap heap. Yet the reality is rather different.

There is no question that the car industry is undergoing a radical change.

At this year's Frankfurt Motor Show - currently under way in the German city - the buzzword throughout the cavernous exhibition halls has been "electrification".

The day before the show, for example, Volkswagen said it would build electrified versions of every model in its range - including those sold under the Audi, Skoda, Seat and Porsche brands - by 2030.

Some 53,780 gold bars, each weighing 12.5kg and worth €440,000, have been shipped to Germany over the last four years, said the bank. The last 100 tons were moved from Paris earlier this year, which means the Bundesbank now holds no reserves in France.

State-owned German development bank KfW mistakenly transferred billions of euros to four other banks due to a “configuration mistake” made by an “experienced programmer,” according to media reports.

The incident took place in late February, when Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) erroneously transferred around €5 billion ($5.4 billion) to four other financial institutions, Bloomberg reported.

The bank mistakenly transferred the hefty sum due to a “human error owing to a configuration mistake,” according to a statement from the bank, emailed to Bloomberg. The amount of mistakenly allocated funds might even be as high as €6 billion, according to an unnamed person familiar with the situation, cited by Bloomberg.

Germany's largest lender has apologized for its costly mistakes in the past as it deals with historic legal troubles. Last week, Deutsche Bank announced a 1.4 billion euro annual loss.

Euro could collapse in 18 months, predicts Trump’s pick for EU ambassador

Written by Tony Harkén on måndag, 30 januari 2017. Posted in Tyskland, Artiklar om Tyskland, Left 1, Left 2 - 3st

Brexiteer professor Ted Malloch, who is likely to become the United States ambassador to the European Union, has predicted the looming failure of the single European currency.

In an interview with the BBC, Malloch predicts the euro "could collapse" in the next 18 months.

"I think it is a currency that is not only in demise but has a real problem and could in fact collapse in the coming year, year and a half…The one thing I would do in 2017 is short the euro,” he told the British broadcaster.

"I am not the only person or economist of that point of view. Someone as acclaimed as Joseph Stiglitz - the World Bank economist - has written an entire book on this subject,” he added.

Malloch added that Washington and London could clinch a free trade deal within 90 days of the UK triggering Article 50 to leave the EU.

Panama Papers Show Global Corruption Got Worse in 2016

Written by Tony Harkén on onsdag, 25 januari 2017. Posted in Tyskland, Artiklar om Tyskland, Main 2, Main 8 - 3st

Revelations of tax-evasion and money-laundering networks on a global scale in the so-called Panama Papers helped make the world appear more corrupt last year, according to graft watchdog Transparency International.

Let's get straight to the point: No country gets close to a perfect score in the Corruption Perceptions Index 2016.

Over two-thirds of the 176 countries and territories in this year's index fall below the midpoint of our scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean). The global average score is a paltry 43, indicating endemic corruption in a country's public sector.

Mörsjö Deli landar stororder i Tyskland

Written by Tony Harkén on tisdag, 13 december 2016. Posted in Tyskland, Artiklar om Tyskland, Main 2, Main 7 - 3st
