Written by Tony Harkén on söndag, 01 juli 2018. Posted in Storbritannien, Main 1, Artiklar om Storbrittannien, Right bottom - 8st

The UN will launch an investigation into extreme poverty in Britain this year. The move comes amid concern at the impact of the Tory government’s austerity policies.

Professor Philip Alston, the UN special rapporteur for human rights and poverty, plans to go on a fact-finding mission in the autumn. It is the organization’s first visit to a western European country since it went to Ireland in 2011. Earlier this month, the law expert attracted the fury of US President Donald Trump after publishing a report criticizing America’s response to the fact that 40 million people were living in poverty in the country.

These are the places to look if you want to see the worst-affected areas.

More London home sellers are having to cut the asking price of their homes, and they’re offering deeper discounts as political uncertainty and high values dampen demand.

“Price cuts seen in prime central London in the immediate aftermath of Brexit are now filtering through to outer boroughs,” said Savills Plc residential research director Lucian Cook. “Affordability issues are now a problem after a decade of house-price growth, and buyers are finding they increasingly come up against mortgage-lending limits."

EU migrants could lose right to stay in Britain within weeks

Written by Cecilia Helland on onsdag, 01 mars 2017. Posted in Storbritannien, Left 1, Artiklar om Storbrittannien, Left 2 - 3st

European migrants arriving in Britain could lose their right to stay permanently from next month under plans reportedly being drawn up by Prime Minister Theresa May.

May is apparently poised to announce that EU citizens who travel to Britain after she triggers Article 50 will no longer have the automatic right to stay in the UK permanently, the Telegraph reports.

She is expected to say EU migrants who arrived in the UK before a “cut-off date,” thought to be March 15 when the government’s Article 50 bill has gone through parliament, will have their rights protected as long as British citizens living elsewhere are also granted the same assurance.

The plan could mean Britons’ right to move to European nations could be taken away from next month also. The top destinations for British expats in the EU are Spain, host to around 419,000, Ireland at 249,000 and France at 171,000.
