Vaasa’s bilingual workforce and proximity to Sweden makes it an ideal entry point to the Finnish market for Memira.
Memira, the market leader in the field of refractive eye surgery in northern Europe, is opening its first clinic in Finland. According to Memira, the clinic will be located in the city of Vaasa on Finland’s western coast, which was selected due to its Finnish and Swedish speaking population and good economic situation. Memira already has about 50 eye clinics and 350 staff in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Germany.
Memira is investing about EUR 1.2 million in the new clinic in Vaasa which is expected to open in October or November this year. The company is also looking for suitable premises in some other cities in Finland, according to Michael Lagerbäck, Memira’s country manager in Sweden.
Memira is currently negotiating about its premises in Vaasa and has already started recruitment for a nurse, optician and clinic manager. “We start the recruitment process early because we reserve about six months for training before the work starts,” says Enni Hannula, Memira’s sales and marketing manager in Finland. Vaasa’s bilingual workforce means that the new staff can be trained using Swedish.
According to Memira, the company carries out 40,000 surgical eye treatments annually in the Nordic countries, covering everything from eye laser to intraocular surgery.
