Finland’s fast-growing gaming cluster has been presented with the Internationalization Award of the President of the Republic.

The aim of the internationalization award is to promote company activities in an international environment and their ability to develop and implement new operating models. According to Invest in Finland, the Finnish gaming cluster is set to become even stronger in the future.

Finnish gaming success stories include Max Payne and Angry Birds. The total turnover of the gaming sector increased to EUR 165 million from EUR 100 million, making it Finland’s largest cultural export sector. About 1300 people are employed in the sector.

The main markets are in the United States and Western Europe. The growth of the sector remained strong in 2011 despite fall in the number and total value of the games sold during the year.

Finland president Tarja Halonen also presented the Internationalization Award to the Finnish companies Beneq and Normet. Beneq supplies equipment and coating technology for global markets, developing applications and equipment for cleantech and renewable energy fields, especially in glass, solar and emerging thin film markets. Normet specializes in the development, production and sales of equipment and vehicles for underground mining and tunnel construction.
